The Quick Estimates of Index of Industrial Production (IIP) with base 1993-94 for the month of February 2005 was released here today by the Central Statistical Organisation, Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation. The General Index stands at 206.9, which is higher by 4.9% as compared to the level in the month of February 2004.
2. The Indices of Industrial Production for the Mining, Manufacturing and Electricity sectors for the month of February 2005 stand at 151.5, 218.9, and 170.5 respectively, with the corresponding growths of (-)2.3%, 6.2% and (-)0.9% as compared to February 2004. The cumulative growth during April-February, 2004-05 over the corresponding period of 2003-04 in the three sectors have been 4.0%, 8.7% and 5.3% respectively, with the overall growth in the General Index being 8.1%
3. Alongwith the Quick Estimates of IIP for February 2005, the indices for January 2005 have undergone the first revision and those for November 2004, the second (final) revision in the light of the updated data received from the source agencies. There are no significant revisions in the indices for November 2004 and January 2005.
4. As many as 15 of the 17 two-digit industry groups have shown positive growth during the month of February 2005 as compared to the corresponding month of the previous year. 'Textile Products (including Wearing Apparel) have shown the highest growth of 23.4%, followed by 18.3% in Paper & Paper Products and Printing, Publishing & Allied Industries and 17.8% in 'Beverages, Tobacco and Related products'. On the other hand, 'Wool, Silk and Man-Made Fibre Textiles have shown a negative growth of 7.8% followed by a decline of 0.6% in 'Food Products'.
5. As per Use-based classification, the growth in February 2005 over February 2004 is 0.8% in Basic goods, 4.5% in Capital goods and 2.4% in Intermediate goods. The Consumer durables and Consumer non-durables have recorded growth of 14.2% and 10.2% respectively, with the overall growth in Consumer goods being 11.2%.
6.
