India and the Republic of Uzbekistan to sign a programme of cultural cooperation between the two countries. Shri S. Jaipal Reddy, Minister of Information & Broadcasting and Culture, signed on behalf of India whereas Uzbekistan Deputy Prime Minister, Elyor Ganiev signed for Uzbekistan. The agreement covers art and culture and sports affairs and would be in operation till December 2007. The two sides would exchange the paintings and drawings on reciprocal basis and would hold group exhibitions of prominent painters and artists of the other country. As per the agreement Sangeet Natak Akademi will participate in the 5th and 6th international music festival Sharq Taronalari to be held in Uzbekistan and will receive music groups and performances from Uzbekistan to India.
National Library of Kolkata and Alisher Naavoi Uzbek State Library will exchange books and other related materials for mutual cooperation under the CEP. Sahitya Akademi will exchange publications, literature and research material in culture and art with Uzbekistan. Both libraries will also organize book exhibition in each others country. The two sides will also cooperate in the areas of art, archaeology and architecture.
In the field of sports, both sides will promote development of bilateral relations between sports organizations including exchange of sportsmen and coaches.
