The number of consequential train accidents have come down to 234 during April, 2004 to March, 2005, as compared to 325 accidents during the corresponding period of last year, i.e. April, 2003 to March, 2004, thus showing an improvement of 28 percent, as per the provisional figures.
A comparative position of consequential train accidents indicates that derailments during April, 2004 March, 2005 were 138, as compared to 202 during April, 2003 to March, 2004, accidents at unmanned level crossings were 65 as compared to 86 last year, accidents at manned level crossings totalled 5 as against 9, fire in trains reported were 10 as against 14 and other miscellaneous incidents recorded were 3 as compared to 5. Thirteen collisions were reported during April, 2004 to March, 2005 as compared to nine such accidents during April, 2003 to March, 2004 last year.
