The Chief Minister of Punjab, Shri Amarinder Singh called on the Union Minister of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, Thiru T. R. Baalu today to discuss issues related to developments of roads in Punjab.

Shri Amarinder Singh requested that some of the state roads in Punjab be developed with funding from Central Road Fund (CRF) under Inter-State-Connectivity scheme. Thiru Baalu conveyed to him that out of a total allocation of about Rs 100 crore, projects worth Rs. 15 crore have already been agreed in principal for sanction. Thiru Baalu advised the officers from Govt. of Punjab that they should quickly send further proposals, in order of priority, for Punjab.

Regarding the construction of Damoria Pul (bridge) in Jallandhar, CM Punjab requested that the project be funded from sources other than CRF. Thiru Baalu informed the CM that the issue has already been taken up with the Planning Commission.

CM Punjab also pointed out the need for four laning of Zirakpur -Patiala section of NH 64 and Ludhiana - Moga section of NH - 95. Thiru Baalu suggested that a feasibility study be conducted regarding viability of these roads to be four-laned on BOT basis. In case viability gap funding is required, Govt. of Punjab can create SPV, leverage funds from the market through the SPV and implement the project.

On the need for declaration of some other state roads in Punjab as National Highways, the Minister informed that no further additions are being made to the existing NH network due to paucity of resources.
