The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has sanctioned an ex-gratia relief of Rs. one lakh for the family of late Asim Kumar Nath from the Journalists Welfare Fund. Shri Nath, a correspondent of the Bengali Daily Aaj Kal died following a road accident in Delhi last month.
The Journalists Welfare Fund has been set up to provide one time ex-gratia relief to members of the family of the journalists who suffer loss of life or permanent disability rendering them incapable, in the course of their duty. It also covers cases of extreme hardship on account of untimely death of the sole breadwinner, who is a journalist. All journalists, who are citizens of India and are ordinarily resident of India and are accredited to PIB at the Headquarters of the Government of India or at the Headquarters (Capitals) of the State Governments, are eligible. A maximum grant of Rs. one lakh can be granted under the welfare scheme.
