The Union Cabinet today approved extension of the deadline by six months up to September, 2005 for conformity to the eligibility criteria by the existing news and current affairs TV Channels.
The companies, operating such channels, were required to conform to the revised guidelines by March 25, 2004. In other words, these companies had to restructure their equity to conform to these guidelines. The decision for extension of the deadline will give time to the Ministry to finalise the proposal to review the uplinking guidelines .
