Wednesday, April 27, 2005

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) today gave its approval for taking up the project on ‘Spearheading Small Civilian Aircraft Design, Development and Manufacture’ by National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL) / CSIR with a total cost of Rs.96.00 crore under X Five Year Plan. CCEA also approved waiving off customs duties for import of all materials / components / equipment for the project because of its development nature.

The approval of project would help in consolidation of work already done by NAL/CSIR in small aircraft design and development through further Research, Development and Technology efforts and through bringing the Light Transport Aircraft from the present prototype stage to its final production standard. It would also catalyse Feeder airlines services and building of air-bridges between smaller towns and in inaccessible geographical terrain like the N-E region, Societal services like air ambulance, disaster relief and security operations such as surveillance and coast guard, etc.
