The Ministry of Home Affairs has convened a Conference of Chief Ministers on Internal Security and Law & order on April 15, 2005. The Conference to be held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister at 10 A.M. and presided over by the Union Home Minister. The Chief Ministers of all States and UT of Pondicherry, Lt. Governors of Delhi and Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Administrators of other UTs have also been invited to attend the Conference. Governors of Bihar and Goa have been invited as these States are under Presidents rule. Besides the representatives of States and UTs, senior Cabinet Ministers, concerned with the subject and Dy. Chairman, Planning Commission have been invited to the Conference. Cabinet Secretary, other Senior Secretaries of Government of India, Heads of Central Police Organizations, Chief Secretaries and Directors General of Police from States and UTs are also expected to attend.
The Conference would review the internal security and law & order situation in the country. The Conference will seek to evolve & consensus on important issues such as Police Reforms. Scheme of Modernization of State Police Forces, measures for maintaining Communal harmony. Prevention and Control of Crime against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and Women, Naxalite violence and Border Management.
