commercial utilisation of land

Thursday, April 21, 2005

Railways have in place policy on commercial utilization of railway land and air-space. As per this, the Railways put its vacant land/air-space for various commercial users like plantation, pisciculture, way-leave etc. Some sites, where potential exists are also taken up for property development through transparent bidding procedure. The land is also given on long lease to Govt. Departments/Public Sector Undertakings. Apart from commercial development of railway land/air-space, the vacant railway land which is not required for immediate operational and maintenance purpose, is utilized for short term licensing for purposes connected with railway working (e.g. bulk oil installations, sidings, commercial plots etc.)

Total revenue earned by Railways during the last three years from land including property developments is given below zone-wise.
