The production of coal by Coal India Limited (CIL), a public sector unit of the Coal Ministry, is estimated at 35 million tonnes during March 2005 as against 32.62 million tonnes during the same month last year. Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), a joint venture of the Government of India and Andhra Pradesh State Government produced 4.1 million tonnes of coal during the month against 3.4 million tonnes during March 2004.
The coal off-take by CIL during the month increased from 29.43 million tonnes in March 2004 to 30.52 million tonnes. SCCL coal off-take also increased from 3.24 million tonnes to 3.72 million tonnes.
