The Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports, Shri Sunil Dutt has said that the State Government Officers especially those who are dealing directly with the schemes and programmes meant for the welfare of the people, can make the foundation of democratic structure even stronger and thus would help maintain the integrity and unity of the country.

Shri Sunil Dutt was addressing a group of Civil Services Officers from various States who have been inducted into the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and are currently undergoing an induction programme.

The Minister exhorted the Officers to work passionately for the welfare of marginalised sections of the society and ensure that the benefits of various central schemes reach the people living in rural India. He pointed out that the benefits of the country's economic growth have yet to fully trickle down to the marginalised sections and the Officers working as District Collectors or those who are in charge of welfare schemes in States can play a pivotal role in this regard. He said that the Administrators would have to be especially sensitive towards the needs of the weaker sections of the society, as all of us are accountable to them.

He assured the Officers that his Ministry would extend all possible help within its limited resources to build Sports infrastructure and asked them to involve the Nehru Yuvak Kendras in their field activities.

Addressing the Officers, Secretary (Youth Affairs & Sports) Smt. Meenaxi Anand Chaudhry, expressed the hope that the experience gained by the Officers at various levels would go a long way in serving the people when they would now be entrusted with larger responsibilities. The Secretary also assured them of full support of her department in their endevour to bring improvement in their area of work.
