CHARGES FRAMED AGAINST TELGI AND OTHERS IN THE MRA MARG POLICE STATION FAKE STAMP CASE.

The Additional Session Judge, Sessions Court, Mumbai, Shri U.D.Salvi framed charges against Abdul Karim Telgi, Sanjay Gaikward and Ram Ratan Soni on the basis of a charge-sheet filed by the CBI in September last. Taken over from MRA Marg Police Station, Mumbai, this case was investigated by CBI on the order of the Supreme Court of India dated 15.3.2004. CBI completed this investigation within a record time and filed a chargesheet on 25.09.2004 under the various provisons of Indian Penal Code and Bombay Stamp Act, 1958. After hearing the arguments and counter arguments from both sides, the Court today pronounced its decision to frame the charges on all the three accused persons under various sections of IPC & Bombay Stamp Act, 1958. The court has fixed the next date as 16.4.2005 for prosecution evidence.

The trial of the case also witnessed innovative use of technology when the trial court was connected to different jails through Video Conferencing and arguments were conducted without the actual physical presence of the accused in the court room. While Sanjay Gaikwad and Ram Ratan Soni are presently lodged in Arthur Road Central Jail, Mumbai, AKL Telgi is in judicial custody in various cases in Yerwada Central Jail, Pune.
