CBI FILES CHARGESHEET AGAINST 13 IN THE ANDHRA MLA MURDER CASE

CBI has filed charge sheet against 13 accused persons for conspiracy, murder and other offences before the court of the Additional Judicial magistrate First class, Anantpur, Andhra Pradesh in the Paritala Ravindra murder case. The charge sheet has been filed under Sections 120-B r/w Sections 147, 148,149,201, 212,302,307,324, 326, 397 IPC and section 25(1B) (a) and Section 27 of the Arms Act 1959 and Section 3 and 5 of The Explosives Substances Act, 1908 against the accused persons. The investigation has been completed within 82 days and after garnering sufficient evidence by way of eyewitnesses, material objects and documents the investigative agency yesterday filed the chagesheet. The chargesheeted are: Gangula Suryanarayana Reddy @ Suri, Srinivasa Reddy, Panduga Narayana Reddy, Vallupalli Rekhamaiah, Bajana Ranganayakulu, Alakunta Kondaiah, Vadde Srinivasalu, Medimi Obi Reddy, K.Rama Mohana Reddy, Gali Venkatarami Reddy, Tarugu Peddi Reddy, Vanna Hanumantha Reddy and Thopudurthi Konda Reddy

The investigation conducted by CBI revealed that Gangula Suryanarayana Reddy @ Suri, a convict lodged in the Cheralapalli Jail hatched a criminal conspiracy with the help of the above mentioned accused persons to eliminate Paritala Ravindra, MLA Penukonda Constituency, whom accused Suryanarayana Reddy considered as responsible for the killings of his father G.Narayana Reddy, during the year 1983 and other family members, in a TV Bomb Blast, during the year 1993.

In furtherance to the said conspiracy, after the fiasco in two attempts made on the life of Paritala Ravindra, the accused persons tracked Paritala Ravindra and on 24.1.05 morning Rekhamaiah, Narayana Reddy, and Julakanti Srinivasa Reddy went to TDP office Anantapur where Paritala Ravindra was attending the general body meeting and shot him dead when he came out of the meeting. At the time of the shoot out, as pre planned, Ranganayakulu, Vadde Konda and Vadde Seena, threw bombs in front of the TDP office. They also shot dead Mehaboob Basha, gunman of Paritala Ravindra and Eswaraiah, a TDP worker apart from injuring four gunmen and three TDP supporters. Thereafter, all the accused persons escaped from the scene. While running away, they also fired at and snatched a carbine and a pistol from two gunmen available at the spot.

On 30.1.2005, one of the assailants, Vallupalli Rekhamaiah, was arrested and based on his disclosure, the pistol (used by Narayana Reddy for the killing) which was thrown by him and four live rounds were recovered. On 2.2.05 five more accused persons viz. Panduga Narayana Reddy, Obi Reddy, Ranganayakulu, Vadde Konda and Vadde Seena, were arrested. Based on the disclosure of Ranganayakulu, three live bombs were recovered. Similarly, based on the disclosures of Panduga Narayana Reddy and Obi Reddy, one 9 mm carbine (used by Rekhamaiah to fire), one 9 mm service Carbine (snatched from P.V.Subbiah, ARPC), one 6-chambered .32 revolver (which was in the possession of Srinivasa Reddy at the time of the incident) and 6 live cartridges of .32 caliber were recovered. Accused Julakanti Srinivasa Reddy is still at large.

After CBI took over the investigation, the accused arrested by the local police viz Panduga Narayana Redy, Obi Reddy, Ranganayakulu, Vadde Konda and Vadde Seena, were taken on police custody and thoroughly interrogated. During the custodial interrogation, all the accused admitted to have taken part in the murders. Further, during the course of investigation, K.Ram Mohan Reddy, Gali Venkatarami Reddy, Vistili Anand Kumar Reddy, Taragu Peddi Reddy, Vanna Hanumantha Reddy, Tagarakunta Konda Reddy were arrested by CBI.

Apart from this, the main conspirator, Gangula Suryanarayana Reddy @ Suri was also taken into police custody and interrogated. All the accused persons, during interrogation, admitted their involvement as well as the roles played by other accomplices.

As part of investigation, exhumation and re-autopsy of the dead bodies of the deceased persons including that of Paritala Ravindra were done. During re-postmortem examination on the dead body of Paritala Ravindra 9 fragmented/deformed projectiles were recovered. These projectiles as well as the weapons were subjected to scientific examination. During investigation, five vehicles used by the accused persons in the commission of the crime were also seized.

Paritala Ravindra, MLA, Penukonda constituency of Andhra Pradesh was killed in a broad day- light shoot –out in front of the TDP office, Anantpur on 24.01.05 where he had gone to attend a general body meeting of his party. An FIR was registered by the Town Police Station, Anantpur on 24.01.05. Based on a request from the Govt. of Andhra Pradesh, the investigation of the case was taken over by CBI on 3.2.2005 by reregistering the case. A special team of CBI was constituted and a thorough probe was conducted into the various allegations including that of political rivalry.
