Shri Chitta Ranjan Mohapatra has taken over as the new Director General of Defence Estates. The senior most officer of the Indian Defence Estates Service (IDES 1972 batch), he was born on November 10, 1947 in Bhubneswar. He obtained his post graduate degree in History with a Gold Medal in 1970 and served as Lecturer in Utkal University for some time before joining IDES.
Shri Mohapatra has held many important assignments in the Ministries of Agriculture, Works and Housing and Defence. He was looking after the procurement of capital equipment for Indian Air Force, administration of Directorate General of Quality Assurance, Developments of Indigenous Ventures for supply of spares and other equipment for the three services, private sector participation in Defence production as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Defence. He looked after international cooperation in the field of agriculture with 50 countries and organisations like FAO, UNDP and CABI etc. during his stint as Director in the Ministry of Agriculture.
Shri Mohapatra participated in the International Workshop at Rutger University, New Jersey, USA under ISNAR Agricultural Technology Management Programme in July 1988. He also attended various international seminars and participated in the training programme under Colambo plan on Management of Technological Change in UK in 1990. In the same year, he visited Dhaka as a member of the Indian Delegation and was instrumental in finalising bi-lateral research programme in Agriculture and Fishery.
