Government has approved the indigenous construction of an Air Defence Ship (ADS) of approximately 37,500 Metric Tons of Cochin Shipyard Limited, Kochi, for the Indian Navy. The revised cost of the construction of the ADS is Rs. 2880 crore. The construction of aircraft carrier is likely to be completed by 2011-2012.
This information was given by the Defence Minister Shri Pranab Mukherjee in a written reply to Shri Narendra Kumar Kushawaha in Lok Sabha today.
