Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya, Rajouri Garden (Main), New Delhi was awarded the first prize and Running Parliamentary Shield and Trophy in the Youth Parliament Competition, 2004-05 for the school of Directorate of Education, Government of Delhi & NDMC. Trophy for the best educational district was given to the North Education District, Directorate of Education, Government of NCT of Delhi and Trophy for standing first among new entrant schools was awarded to Mount Abu Public School, Rohini, Delhi. Merit trophies were also awarded to 13 schools for their meritorious performance in the competition. After distributing the prizes, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Rural Development, Smt. Suryakanta Patil said that the scheme of Youth Parliament Competition goes a long way in acquainting the coming generations with the practical knowledge of the functioning of our Parliamentary institutions and would further the cause of democracy. She expressed hope that the scheme of Youth Parliament will contribute towards developing qualities of discipline, leadership, tolerance and concern for society among students.
Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs have been organizing Youth Parliament Competitions in the Schools under the Directorate of Education, Government of NCT of Delhi and NDMC for the past 39 years. In 1978, Kendriya Vidyalayas situated in and around Delhi were incorporated into the competition along with the Delhi schools. In 1988, a separate National Youth Parliament Scheme for Kendriya Vidyalayas was introduced as a part of the celebrations of 40 years of Indias Independence and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehrus birth centenary. In 1997-98, two more national competitions, one for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and other for Universities and Colleges were introduced as a part of the celebrations to commemorate 50 years of Indias Independence. Under the scheme of Youth Parliament Competition for the schools of Directorate of Education, Government of Delhi and NDMC, the 39th Competition in the series was organised during 2004-05.
Among others present on the occasion were Secretary, Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Shri V.K. Agnihotri and ex-member of Parliament, Shri Ramchander Vikal.
