The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has decided to lodge FIRs against three institutes for misrepresentation of facts relating to land and built up area for their proposed new institutions. These are Roorkee Institute of Technology, Roorkee, sponsored by Himalayan Charitable Trust, Roorkee; Bharat Ratna Indira Gandhi College of Engineering, Solapur, sponsored by Kai Sushilatai Gaikwad Bahuuddeshiya Sanstha, Solapur, Mahrashtra; and SCT College of Pharmacy, Bangalore, sponsored by Shanti Charitable Trust, in Karnataka.
The misrepresentation of facts came to light as a result of the extraordinary initiative taken by AICTE to put information regarding establishment of new technical institutions for the year 2005-06 in public domain through its website. Due to universal access, misrepresentation of facts by the applicants in respect of available infrastructural facilities as observed by others can be brought to the notice of the Council thus enabling remedial action.
