adoption of schools for sports training

Under the National Sports Talent Contest (NSTC) Scheme of Sports Authority of India (SAI) schools are adopted by SAI for scientific training of talented children in the age group of 8 to 14 with the concept of play and study. At present, there are 32 regular schools, 24 Navodaya Vidyalayas and 27 schools for promotion of indigenous games and martial arts under this scheme. In addition, 25 more Navodaya Vidyalayas have been approved during 2004-05 for adoption.

This information was given by Shri Sunil Dutt, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today.
