The Union Minister of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, Thiru T. R. Baalu has approved two works costing Rs. 211.97 lakhs on NH 45A in Tamil Nadu.
Under the first proposal, approval has been granted to acquire land for improvement to geometrics in km 137/0-151/0 of NH 45A in Thanjavur Division of Tamil Nadu at a cost of Rs. 179.27 lakhs.
The second proposal that has been approved is Tsunami Damage Repair (TDR) work in km 119/245-119/465 of NH 45A under Villupuram NH Division in Tamil Nadu. Due to Tsunami disaster on December 26, 2004, the embankment on the approaches to major bridge across river Coleroon had been badly damaged. Approval has been granted for construction of revetment using cement concrete blocks for protection of embankment at the above-mentioned location on NH 45A at a cost of Rs. 32.70 lakhs.
