State cultural affairs minister Ashok Chavan has said that paucity of funds has made it necessary for the government
to put up historic monuments up for adoption by private firms and trusts.
It is possible that construction of hotels inside the heritate structures would be allowed on the lines of Rajasthan's palace hotels. Chavan said the possibility couldn't be ruled out and they decide on 'a case-to-case basis'.
Chavan said private bodies had already expressed a keen interest in the project.
Meanwhile an amount of Rs.7.35 crores has been sanctioned for the renovation of Mumbai's five forts forts: Sewri, Ghodbunder, Worli, Bandra and Vasai.
The central grant will also cover the development of the areas around the forts and provision of basic tourist facilities.
