Congress President Sonia Gandhi has been sworn into Parliament's Lok Sabha as a member.
Gandhi won the Rae Bareli constituency by a margin of over four lakh votes less than two months after she quit the seat in the Office of Profit controversy.
Her son Rahul Gandhi, daughter Priyanka Vadra and her husband who managed Sonia's election campaign watched on as she took the oath.
"I am very proud of my mother, my brother and the people of Rae Bareli who endorsed her," said Priyanka Gandhi.
Gandhi also chaired her first meeting of the Congress Parliamentary Party since her re-election in Rae Bareli by-polls.
In her speech she focused on the welfare of farmers, controlling prices, agriculture and wheat imports.
Speaking on communal violence in Vadodara, she said, "The communal violence in Vadodara was entirely the creation of the insensitive and bluntly partisan state administration. All of us must always remain constantly alert and vigilant."
Also commenting on the election results in West Bengal, Gandhi said it was disappointing.
