Following the arrival of Suryanarayana’s body at his home, his wife Manjula attempted a suicide. Moreover, another woman has staked claim to be his second spouse, and demanded share in the compensation sanctioned for the family. Manjula consumed phenyl in the bathroom of her house and collapsed after which her relatives, who had gathered at her residence, rushed her to the hospital.

The suicide attempt by Manjula followed after the dramatic claim made by a young woman Swapna that she was the second wife of Suryanarayana. Swapna, hailing from Warangal, met Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Soumya Mishra in Hyderabad and sought permission to have a last glimpse of the body of her "husband".

"Suryanarayana had married me in 2004 and we have a nine-month-old daughter," Swapna, in her late 20s, told reporters after meeting Mishra. She claimed she had "willingly entered into wedlock" with Suryanarayana despite knowing he was already married with three children. She said they got married at Ramappa temple in Warangal two years ago against the wishes of both their families.
