Mumbai: Water and Parking are two areas that may be the cause of fight among the Mumbaikars. Shekhar Kapur, noted film maker, once said that there will be water wars in future and even talked of making a film around that theme with water mafia blackmailing the people. Parking wars have begun much before water wars.

It has happened in the posh Malabar Hill area.

Residents of Walkeshwar Road thrashed six policemen after they were told to move their cars parked on the road outside their buildings on Wednesday morning. The cops landed up in hospital, the residents in police lock-up.

Twenty residents, including a woman, were arrested on charges of rioting and later released on bail of Rs 3,000 each. Of the six policemen, two constables were admitted to Nair and Cumballa Hill hospitals.

The traffic police had declared the road in front of the Suryadarshan and Walkeshwar House buildings a no-parking zone during peak hours. The residents of the buildings disagreed, and defied police orders. They had nowhere else to go, they said.

The cops acted tough. As the tow cranes arrived, the residents came out on the streets. The situation escalated, the cops sensed trouble, and called in reinforcements from Malabar Hill Police Station.
