Women Who Cannot Get Enough

Dr. David Goldmeier, in a report in the International Journal of STD & AIDS, has described a 'disorder' among some women that causes constant sexual arousal. The malady is called persistent sexual arousal syndrome (PSAS).

"Persistent sexual arousal syndrome occurs when a woman becomes involuntarily aroused for extended periods of time in the absence of sexual desire," said Dr. Goldmeier. He says the condition can be very distressing and embarrassing for women.

Little is known about how wide spread the problem is or the best treatments for it. Some women report symptoms when they stop taking antidepressants known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. More research is needed to understand the disorder.
