Congress President Sonia Gandhi, who arrives in Rae Bareli, for the first time after her resignation of the Lok Sabha seat, is expected to outline the party's future course of action in the backdrop of the `office of profit` controversy. Turning her visit a grand affair, a public meeting has been organised at the Government Inter-college ground where Mrs Gandhi will reveal her plans.
In fact, a section of opposition suspects this to be an `unofficial beginning of Congress campaign` for mid term poll.
She would also be holding mass contact in the contstituency from where she has already declared to seek re-election.
Rae Bareli and Amethi are considered pocketboroughs of the Gandhi family having been represented earlier by the late Indira Gandhi, Sanjay Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. Sonia shifted to Rae Bareli constituency in the last Lok Sabha elections from adjacent Amethi from where her son Rahul contested.
The Congress chief is also expected to lambast Mulayam Singh Yadav Government as her party and the ruling Samajwadi Party are at loggerheads for the past over two years on several issues.
