In recognition of his contribution in public life and development of the country, the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad today conferred the degree of Doctor of Science (honoris causa) on Panchayati Raj AND Youth Affairs & Sports Minister, Shri Mani Shankar Aiyar.
In its citation on the occasion, the Indian School of Mines has said: "Shri Mani Shankar Aiyar an eminent Parliamentarian and scholar, is one of India’s well-known writers who have made a mark in public life through his writings, commentaries and speeches. He has a distinguished academic record and received his Masters degree from Trinity Hall, Cambridge University, UK after graduating from St. Stephern’s College, Delhi. For sixteen years as politician and parliamentarian and for more than twenty-six years as a career diplomat, Shri Mani Shankar Aiyar has espoused causes, which serve to strengthen our ethos of "One Nation, One People" and advanced our common trust – to keep India strong and secular. He has also contributed to the intellectual wealth of the nation, through his articles on key issues and writing and editing books that show his zest for life and his passion for public service".
