The Economic offices wing (EOW) will be questioning Jagmohan Dalmiya, former President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, (BCCI) and three of his associates. Dalmiya faces charges of abusing his power as the president of BCCI for personal gains and misappropriation of funds during" the 1996 World Cup that was hosted jointly by India, Bangladesh and Pakistan.
The others to be questioned include former BCCI secretary SK Nair, former BCCI treasurers Kishore Rungta and Jyoti Bajpayee, all of whom will record their statements at the EOW.
Jagmohan Dalmiya allegedly diverted as much as Rs 21.74 lakh from the World Cup 1996 funds for his personal use. The post of the BCCI president is a very coveted one and last year the present president Sharad Pawar lost the elections by a single vote.
This year Sharad Pawar won the elections hands by a large margin, and there are rumours that Sharad Pawar is getting back at Dalmiya in this manner.
A case has been registered against Dalmiya by the secretary of BCCI at the Marine Drive police station for misappropriation of funds.
The High Court has given interim relief to Jagmohan and three associates till April 10.
