The Samajwadi Party on Friday denied that it was planning to field Jaya Bachchan against Sonia Gandhi, who has announced her intention to fight elections from Rae Bareli again. Denying the rumours, SP state unit president Ram Saran Das said: "We have differences with the Congress and Sonia Gandhi, but we will not stoop so low as to cause embarrassment to Sonia."
However, the party may field a candidate against Sonia to avoid the charge that it was afraid of her. Sources said the Samajwadi party would not like to annoy the Congress leadership by resorting to such a step. Besides the chances of Jaya Bachchan beating Sonia Gandhi in such an election are very slim.
