A eleven year old boy studying in class VII has served a legal notice on Naukri.com for making fun of a name that is the same as his own.
The Naukri.com TV commercial pokes fun at the name "Hari Sadu" by qualifying the letters of the first name (Hari) as Hitler, Arrogant, Rascal and Idiot. The 11-year-old schoolboy, Hari Bhanot, served a legal notice on the portal last week when his friends at school and outside started teasing him after seeing the advertisement. The commercial has been on air for over a fortnight on all leading TV channels.
Hari's father Aneesh Bhanot said that it was poor judgment on the part of the advertising agency to poke fun at a common Indian name.
"There might be hundreds of Haris in this country but my son is facing a problem. That's why we decided to ask the company to withdraw me ad and apologise," he said.
He said the commercial was in bad taste. Hari's father wrote a letter asking the portal to withdraw the commercial but received no response. He finally served a week's legal notice on the company. The notice period ends on Thursday.
Following the legal notice, the jobs website, instead of rectifying the commercial, advised the boy's father to meet the school principal and get action initiated against the students who were teasing Hari.
"This is absurd. If the portal does not take action, I will proceed in court against them," he said. The website has, meanwhile, filed caveat in courts in and around Chandigarh in case a petition is filed against its commercial. The site has claimed that millions of rupees had been spent on the commercial and its sudden withdrawal would entail a big loss.
