Advani to kickstart yatra from Somnai Rajnath from Puri on Ram Navmi
The Bharatiya Janata Party leader Lai Krishna Advani and president Rajnath Singh are embarking on twin "national integration road yatras" for a mass-awakening against divisive and terrorist forces from April 6 that will pass through 18 states covering 10,800 km to converge into Delhi simultaneously on May 10.
The route and schedule of the yatras, announced by Advani immediately after the Varanasi bomb blasts early this month, was finalised at a meeting of the general secretaries with the state units' presidents and organising secretaries chaired by Rajnath Singh here on Friday.
The Ram Navmi day that falls on April 6, which also coincides with BJP's foundation day, has been chosen for the twin yatras is seen as an attempt to recover the lost grounds among the Hindu voters. The yatra culmination on May 10 is another historic day—the first revolt for independence in 1857.
Both Advani and Rajnath would break their journeys to campaign for the assembly elections in five states.
Five states common in their itinerary are Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Chhattisgarh and Delhi, though the two leaders would be travelling to different regions in these states.
Advani, who kicks off his journey from the Somnath temple in Gujarat on April 6, will be covering 5,800 km in 10 states. Rajnath Singh takes off the same day from Puri in Orissa and covers 5,000 km in 12 states, including Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttaranchal, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab besides the five common states. Former Union Minister and BJP Secretary Vijay Goel of Delhi is incharge of his yatra.
