Ashutosh Gowariker, director of Lagaan and Swades is not too happy with Aishwarya Rai getting married to Abhishek Bachchan.
No, he isn't in love with her. It's just that she's cast opposite Hrithik Roshan in his period film 'Jodha Akbar' and now with his leading lady getting married, the movie may turn a cold proposal.
When Aishwarya Rai reported on Gowariker's sets for work, no one from his unit mentioned her much publicised engagement with Abhishek Bachchan or wished her. Ashutosh Gowariker, say sources, tried to get Ash to sign a contract about not getting married before the release of 'Jodha Akbar' but Ash was elusive about it and didn't sign the contract.
Married heroines in Bollywood have few takers. Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit, Karisma Kapoor were much sought after actresses before they chose to settle down in matrimony but now have to lobby with major banners to get the work they want. The occasional successful movie like 'Fanaa' that had a married Kajol nevertheless, distributors shy away from such projects as audiences in small towns don't find married women romancing other men on screen, convincing enough.
Another factor that may be weighing on Ashutosh's mind is the possible delay in completion as Aishwarya may be away for her honeymoon for a few weeks after her marriage and may not be inclined to resume work in a hurry. Ashutosh Gowariker's Swades bombed at the box office and sources say he was banking on 'Jodha Akbar' to recreate the Lagaan magic.
