The duo, that was caught at Kurla with explosives were part of some terrorist group, and the admission by one of the arrested of having undergone a 22-day training in Pakistan in bomb-making, has further strengthened the suspicion.

They have been identified as Mushiruddin Salaud-din Siddiqui (27), a native of Kanpur, but residing in Virar town of neighbouring Thane district, and Manzoor Mah-mood Ansari (37), a resident of Birganj town of Nepal: Siddiqui, the ATS official said, was interrogated earlier in connection with the 2003 serial bomb blasts, but was released as Mumbai police had then not been able to prove his involvement in the blasts.

Siddiqui, ATS officials said, had moved to Virar some years ago, but had disappeared after his questioning in the 2003 serial bomb blasts.

"Siddiqui has admitted that he underwent training in bomb-making for 22 days in Pakistan recently, but we suspect that he could be involved further in subversive activities," an ATS official said.

Manzoor Ansari, on the other hand, came in contact with Siddiqui through a friend. They said it was investigating as to why did he travel from Birgang to Gorakhpur and took a train with Siddiqui to reach Mumbai.

"It is interesting that we arrested some LeT men earlier in January who had sophisticated detonators and no explosives, and here are two men, who have sophisticated explosives but, again, no detonators," the ATS chief said, hinting a possible link between the two.

The explosive powder has been sent for forensic examination.
