New Ministers Take charge

New Delhi: Showing a sense or urgency with barely a fortnight left for the Budget session of Parliament, the newly-inducted ministers has assumed charge of their ministries promising to pay special attention to a range of issues.

Soon after taking charge as Petroleum Minister, Murli Deora said making available subsidised cooking fuel to vulnerable and poor sections, exploring untapped hydrocarbon reserves and securing oilfields abroad topped his agenda for the country's energy security requirements.

Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi said he would make efforts to bring further improvement in the functioning of Indian missions abroad on issues related to workers.

On her first day in office as Tourism and Culture Minister, Ambika Soni said there was lot of scope for work and she would carry forward the process for which her predecessor Renuka Chaudhary had already laid the foundation.

Pledging to do justice to all states, Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz said he would also endeavour to increase the cooperation and coordination of his ministry with that of Environment and Rural Development.

On her first day in office as Minister of State for Women and Child Development (independent charge), Renuka Chowdhary said the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act would go a long way in securing the rights of women.
