3 auto rickshaw drivers field for assaulting doc

A Mira Road-based doctor was brutally assaulted by a gang of armed rickshaw-drivers outside Mira Road railway station on Friday evening when he refused to pay the excess fare the driver demanded.

Dr. Kailash Bansraj Rathod, a resident of Srushti Complex in Mira Road, boarded a rickshaw (MHQ4-AE4906) from Naya Nagar rickshaw-stand in Mira load. After a heated argument over the fixed are, the situation took a violent turn when the driver along with a gang of 8-10 other rivers assaulted Rathod with iron rods near the auto-stand.

Rathod has been admitted to Balaji Hospital with severe injuries. After a complaint lodged at Mira Road police station, three accused, including Javed Qayyum Khan (26), Ajmal Khan (22) and Milind Gopal Sarkar (22), have been arrested while their accomplices involved in the attack are reportedly absconding.

The rowdy and criminal elements among the rickshaw drivers are known for overcharging in this area. There have been similar incidents in the past too.

The accused, who are remanded to two days of police custody, have been booked under sections 323, 341,343 and 501 of the IPC. Further investigations are on.
