Karachi: Indian left-arm paceman Irfan Pathan wrote his name in the history books when he became the second Indian to claim a Test hat-trick on the opening day of the third and final cricket Test against Pakistan in Karachi.

Pakistan were bowled out for 245 in their first innings on the opening day of the third and final cricket Test.
Brief Scores:

Pakistan: 245 all out in 60.1 overs (Akmal 113, Razzaq 45, Shoaib 45; Pathan 5/61, R P Singh 3/66, Zaheer 2/75).

The Baroda bowler had Salman Butt caught by skipper Rahul Dravid on the fourth ball of the match and then had stand-in Pakistan captain Younis Khan leg before wicket of the very next delivery.

Pathan completed the hat-trick when he bowled Mohammad Yousuf of the last ball of the over to leave the hosts three down with no runs on the board.

The only previous hat-trick by an Indian in Test cricket was taken by off-spinner Harbhajan Singh against Australia in Kolkata in 2001.

The 21-year-old left-armer had his victims beaten by the swing as well as seam movement extracted from the pich.

Pathan is the 33rd bowler to record this feat in Test cricket.

It is the 36th occasion that a bowler had taken three wickets off successive balls in the longer version of the game.

Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram, Australians Hugh Trumble and Jimmy Matthews have taken two hat-tricks in Test cricket, Matthews achieving the rare feat in two innings of the same match.

India made one change from the team that drew the second Test at Faisalabad, bringing in Sourav Ganguly for off-spinner Harbhajan Singh while Faisal Iqbal replaced Inzamam in the Pakistan eleven, with Younis Khan taking over as the captain.
