Khatmandu: Student activists in Nepal have called for the boycott of films featuring Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala after she campaigned for a mayoral candidate for the February 8 municipal polls, dubbed as "stage managed" by the parties opposed to the King.

Angry activists from student organizations affiliated to the pro-democracy parties burnt photographs of the actress in Damauli of Tanhu district and Pokhara of Kaski district and shouted slogans against the actress who is the daughter of Nepal's Science and Technology Minister Prakash Koirala.

The activists were upset with her for backing a mayoral candidate in her hometown Biratnagar and for giving an interview on Nepal Television and The Rising Nepal in support of monarchy.

The unions urged the public to to boycott Manisha's films and called upon film halls across the country not to screen them, Nepal Students Union secretary Indra Karki said.

"We have also warned many other artists not to support monarchy, adding that they will also have to face the same consequences if the cinema halls screen her films."
