Badminton Player arrested for rape

Mumbai: Shaukat Noor Mohammed (50) AKA Mulla, a clerk in income-tax department and a former badminton player, was arrested by the Oshiwara police on Saturday on charges of repeatedly raping his minor domestic help over the past one year.

Bandra holiday remanded him to police custody till February 3.

Though the victim was raped for the past one year, the case came to light after an NGO found the victim weeping on a street near Adarsh Nagar in Andheri and took her to the child welfare committee (CWC) recently. According to the complaint, the victim, a native of West Bengal, was 11 years when her parents sent her to Mumbai through one Meena Mami to do some odd jobs. In Mumbai, she landed up at Shaukat's flat No. 418, M-Wing, Tarapur Towers in Lokhandwala complex.

Shaukat's wife Shaheen is an air hostess with the Saudia Airlines. The couple has two children, aged five and two years, who live with them.

The victim has also alleged that Shaukat had forced her to undergo abortion three times.Shaukat has been charged under Sections 376 (rape) and 506 (threat) of the Indian Penal Code.

The girl is now in a Dongri home under the Child Welfare Committee.
