12 hand grenades, one sten gun, two automatic pistol magazines .two carbine magazines and an unidentified powder wrapped in white cellophane paper were found in a State Bank of India locker on Friday. All of this was stored in a locker at the Turner Road branch of the State bank of India at Bandra. Official sources said the locker was inoperative for fifteen years.

The white powder found may be drugs or explosives and has been sent to the forensic laboratory for examination. The locker was taken on rent by one Arun Ronaldo Vij in the mid- 1980s. State Bank of India officials didn't have details as most of the officials in charge during that period have been transferred or have retired.

The locker was opened by the state bank authorities because it had not been operated for over fifteen years and the locker rentals were overdue for 20 years.

The address given by the leasee of the locker has turned out to be false and the police suspect that the passport copy also may be fraudulent. The police is planning to get in touch with the State bank of India officials of that period hoping that they may be able to provide some clues. Meanwhile Sate bank of India officials have been asked to call all locker owners to identify their belongings and lockers. Many lockers at the state bank have been inoperative for a very long period of time.
