Customs seize hashish worth Rs 1 cr

A Nepalese national, Laxman Tamang (26), and a Tanzanian national, Juma Haroon Abdulla (51), were arrested on Thursday while they were boarding a Kenya Airways flight KQ-201 for Nairobi, on charges of posessing about 2.1785 kg of hashish with international value of over Rs 1 crore. The custom officers had been tipped off about the consignment that was likely to be shipped abroad on republic day. Additional vigilance was observed at the deaprture and immigration facilities and the two accused were stopped after they have checked in. The custom officers asked for a thorough inspection of their bags, on suspicion and the hashish was revealed.

Nishith Goyal, Additional Commissioner of the AIU is working on the case and further arrests were expected in this case. All four have been arrested under the Narcotic, Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. They were produced in the local magistrate's court and have been remanded to police custody for further investigations.
