Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi has struck a deal with mom, Sonia Gandhi: "You take care of nation, me Uttar Pradesh."
Impressed by his critical analysis of why the party is not clicking in northern India, particularly in Uttar Pradesh, at the Hyderabad AICC plenary on Monday, the Congress president made an offer to Rahul to take charge of UP to prepare the party for the Assembly elections due next January.
Rahul has jumped over the offer, telling the Congress leaders returning him with from Hyderabad, that the job suits him the best as he hates to sit in closed-door meetings of Congress Working Committee (CWC) where his fans want to put him or operate from an office in the party headquarters.
Nor would he slip into holding meetings after meetings of the party leaders that fits in the Congress culture. Party sources quoted him saying that he would do exact what he advised the plenary delegates: "Plunge into the battlefield in the heart of India, go to its villages, towns, cities, schools and universities and build links with the people."
