Modi Kalyan, Katiyar elevated while Mahajan emerges No.2
In the proxy war between Atal Behari Vajpayee and L K Advani, Vajpayee has won the first round. He had described Pramod Mahajan as Laxman (leaving the name of Rama unsaid) but if Rajnath Singh, who has taken over BJP as its President is Rama, the Laxman is certainly Mahajan.

He is "Team India’s" general secretary No. 1 as also secretary of the party's two top bodies of Parliamentary Board and Central Election Committee.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's induction in the highest decision-making body of the Parliamentary Board is seen as a clear message to his detractors that his position is not weakened from his mentor Advani handing over the reins to Rajnath Singh.

Former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh, who was widely speculated as opting out of the new team, remains the vice-president in the team that has not made many major changes except for the hawkish Vinay Katiyar brought in as a general secretary and a few new faces included as secretaries.

Ved Prakash Goyal of Mumbai continues to be the national treasurer.

Venkaiah Naidu continues to be a member of the Parliamentary Board. The list finalized by Rajnath on Monday but kept for release on Saturday was out at a hurriedly-convened press conference by Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, who continues as vice-president, at the party headquarters here on Wednesday evening.

Prakash Javadekar, and Arun Jaitley remain the spokespersons of the central office.
