The Mazagaon court on Tuesday extended the police custody of Maulana Ghulam Yahya Allah Baksh, Imam of local' Haj house masjid till January 26. Maulana Ghulam was arrested on charges of having connections with LeT.
The prosecution told the court that his Police custody was required for the purpose of further interrogation. Baksh was arrested by the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Mumbai police on January 14, for alleged links with three suspected LeT militants who were held earlier this month in the city.
The three hail from Jammu and Kashmir. Maulana Baksh was arrested under sections 16, 18 and 19 of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), 2004. According to ATS, Maulana provided safe house to the three suspected militants. Maulana, who was working as Imam in Haj House masjid since 1996, had also helped them to conceal arms and material used for making bombs, ATS has alleged.
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir police on Tuesday took the three militants to Kashmir for interrogation as the court had earlier given its permission to hand over them to the Kashmir police.
