Cases under the Weights and Measurements Act have been registered against well-known sweet and snack maker Haldiram and Surya Foods, the manufacturer of Priya Gold biscuits, for violating product packaging norms.

Inspectors from the de partment of legal metrology raided godowns belonging to the distributors of two companies earlier this month, after detecting a fault in their product packaging. They also seized Haldiram products which were meant for export, but were being sold locally. "This is in violation of the Standards of Weights and Measures Act, 1976," said an inspector. In India, the standard unit of weight measurement is kgs/grams.
