Two train passengers, one from Mumbai and the other from Ajmer, were shot dead as a gang of four robbers went on a shooting spree in the Jaipur-bound Aravalli Express few minutes after it left Vapi station on Friday midnight.

The robbers boarded the general coach of the train from Vapi station. Initially, they began chatting away with passengers. Soon, one of them had a heated argument with a passenger—Salim Khan Pathan—over a mobile phone. When Pathan did not hand over the phone, the robbers opened fire randomly at the passengers. A bullet hit Shaffi Sultan Pinzara, 22, and Naresh Kumar Jatinath, 33, who were standing close to Pathan, killing them. Pathan and another passenger Mohammad Feroze were injured.

The injured were taken to New Civil Hospital at Majura Gate.
