The UP Congress has moved the Honorable High Court alleging that superstar Amitabh Bachchan has unleashed a false propaganda to promote CM Mulayam Singh Yadav on national television.
In a letter faxed to the Chief Election Commissioner on Saturday, UPCC president Salman Khurshid drew attention to an advertisement by Amitabh Bachchan where he flaunted a Central government's report before the camera to claim that crimes had dipped in Uttar Pradesh.
The letter described the ad as 'confusing and crude', and claimed that according to the statistics maintained by the National Crime Record Bureau 2005, UP occupied the top slot.
31.5 percent of crimes recorded during the period were reported from Uttar Pradesh. The state was number one in murder with 5711 murders and 5637 attempted murders.
UP is second in offences against women, according to the bureau's report. In harassment of dalits, human rights violation, UP again tops the list, the letter claimed while quoting the relevant figures. Child abduction in UP is so widespread that over one out of every five cases in the country is from UP, Khurshid has pointed out.
Amitabh Bachchan is believed to be close to Samajwadi Party and their leader Mulayam Singh Yadav and considered Amar Singh, SP leader as his 'younger brother'.
