Mumbai: Could it be another Bipasha? Call girls, bar girls, dancing girls and mujra girls are known to give themselves easy on the tongue names. While the names like Sweety, Pinky, Dolly, Rita, Sapna and Pooja are the most common, the name Bipasha too could belong to any girl.

Understandably sore, movie actress Bipasha Basu has denied having ever spoken to Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh on phone and termed as "slanderous" publication of the alleged tapped telephonic conversation in a daily in Mumbai.

The alleged conversation that has upset Bipasha was contained in a CD that had been mysteriously mailed to TV channels in the Capital. While Rajdeep Sardesai's CNN/IBB chose not to telecast the CD till its authenticity could be determined, NDTV's Barkha Dutt ran exclusive interview with Amar Singh in which he ended up neither confirming nor denying the statements purportedly made by him on phone.

With Amar Singh claiming that the tapes were doctored and morphed and TV channels deciding not telecast them, DNA, the Mumbai daily took the line that it did not need to take a holier than thou attitude.

Instead, it decided to publish the extracts of the conversation in "public interest" on Sunday.

From the published transcripts of the alleged conversation, it is obvious that the man and a woman on the phone seem to have no inhibition about engaging in banter about even private details about their lives.

The man on the phone keeps addressing the woman as 'sweetie' and keeps referring to himself as an "old fossil," inviting derisive laughter from the woman.

Bipasha, on reading the report, reacted strongly. She told Star News: "I am totally shocked at the slanderous report. It was nothing short of outrageous that the alleged conversation has been attributed to me. I had never had a telephonic, conversation with Mr Amar Singh and the report is totally malicious."

Basu said she is exploring legal options.
