Khadi & Village Industries Commission Bill Amended

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet today gave its approval for moving amendments to the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2005. The amendment Bill would facilitate the reconstitution and revamping of the KVIC. As a result, the organizational structure and operating procedures of the KVIC will be modernized and development of khadi and village industries will get further impetus, resulting in generation of sustainable employment in the rural economy.

The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2005, approved by the Cabinet on August 4, 2005, was introduced in the Lok Sabha on August 22, 2005 and later referred to the department-related Parliament Standing Committee on Industry for examination and report. The Committee submitted its report to Parliament on December 13, 2005 by recommending amendments to some clauses of the Bill. The Bill contains fourteen clauses, out of which the Committee recommended amendments to four clauses and adopted the remaining clauses without any change.
