Mumbai: The BJP warned the authorities against imposing load shedding in Mumbai..

"Mumbai is an international city, which is also known as the economical hub of the nation.

Therefore, the metropolis should not face the power cuts," the party says.. Addressing a press conference, BJP civic group leader Parag AJavani told reporters on Thursday that one-sixth of the population of the state dwells in Mumbai where the power deficit is nearly 250 MW. For the state, it is more than 4500 MW.

Therefore, depriving Mumbai of power will not serve any purpose, he felt. The BJP has submitted a memorandum to the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (EMRC) on Wednesday, asking that load-shedding should not be implemented in the metropolis.

Alavani warned that a statewide agitation, will be launched if the government did not pay attention to the demand. He accused that ministers were misguiding the people. The BJP leader said if a power cut was introduced in Mumbai, the repercussions would be felt not only in India but internationally, too. The load-shedding would finish Mumbai's reputation as the 'city that never sleeps' and would adversely affect the flow of foreign investment.

Moreover, small enterprises and self-employed persons would lose their livelihood, creating a socio-economic problem, Alavani observed.
