Illegal chicken shops Fined

Mumbai: The BMC on Thursday raided 38 unauthorized chicken-shops and eateries, and imposed a penalty of Rs 10,000 fine on each of them during its special drive against illegal shops in the city.

During this drive, the civic officials also found seven dead chickens, which have been sent to the City Veterinary College for further testing.

Talking to Parinda , deputy Municipal Commissioner, Vijay Kalam Patil said that they visited almost 330 authorized while 292 illegal shops and seized seven dead chickens including one at Borivali while six at Sahara Nagar in the metropolis on Thursday.

This drive will be continued till Monday.

According to officials, not a single chicken of the 24,000 chicken that entered in the city on Thursday was sent back as the carriers produced the certificate from the animal husbandry doctors.

On Thursday, teams of BMC visited nearly 750 restaurants and served notice to 600 shops asking them to pay Rs 1000 to 5000 as fine.

"If they fail to pay fine on time, the BMC will prosecute them and enhance the penalty to Rs 10,000.
