BMC security guard foils rape attempt on minor

A BMC security guard will be awarded for his bravery in preventing a man from raping a 10-year-old minor girl at Hanging Gardens in Malabar Hill recently.

Ganesh Kochekar, the BMC security guard, disclosed that at around 8 pm on February 20 he caught red-handed a dhoti clad middle aged man about to rape a ten-year-old minor in a secluded spot. He pounced on the accused and saved the victim from his clutches. The minor, who resides near J J Hospital, has been sent to children's home in Dongari.

The Malabar Hill police station said that the accused, one Bhuj Pathan, has been remanded to police custody on charge of attempt to commit rape. Deputy Municipal Commissioner Vijay Kalam Patil said that the BMC would felicitate the guard and give him a cash reward and a certificate.
